These have a really solid latch that's difficult to release accidentally but easy to open on purpose. They are thick and sturdy boxes and the medium size makes them easy to lift and carry. I did not store heavy items in them so I can't speak to how they do in that regard. My goal was to keep the lid on if/when the cats knock the box off the shelf and it serves that purpose well.
